Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? I have been reading a lot about habit forming and applying it to my day-to-day life. Every morning when I have my coffee I set up a plan for the day. It always begins with writing in my journal. Most of the time the writing that I do in it consists of what I dreamt about, I guess I could technically call it a dream journal. But I also add in important events that happened or are about to happen. I also like to include what I’m grateful for. I know that sometimes its difficult to find anything to write about so I recommend those three simple things to begin with: what you dreamt of, what you did or are going to do, and what your grateful for. You will find that those things often spark creativity for other things to write about. I also Like to use a journal that has a dot grid instead of a normal lined journal. I just feel more creative and less pressure to fill in the lines, and writing becomes so much easier.
After journaling is when I begin to set up my to do list for the day. It’s important to note that a to do list can easily become a busywork tracker. I recommend thinking in terms of weeks and months, then using your daily to do list as a way of keeping on track with the bigger picture, the things that are most important to you, your purpose, and things that you want to accomplish in life. Like chipping away at the marble until your sculpture is complete. Of course, add in the little tedious things that need to be done, like groceries, cleaning, bank…etc. But I always make sure my day has at least 3 things that I need to work on that’s going to lead to the greatest outcomes. For my to do list, I use an app on my phone called Colornote. Simple, easy, and you can easily add and check off the things you put in it.
Then after the list is set up, I read for an hour. Soon I will be using that hour to read our book club books! I’m so excited to have discussions about all the interesting things that are in these books. I use my Kindle to read…mostly. What’s great about it is that I can highlight things that I find interesting, and I can import all the notes I make to a word document. That will prove to be useful when it comes to making discussion topics in the book club!
After reading I always ALWAYS do yoga. Everyday. I think its very important to move and stretch the body, especially after waking up. For me though, its more about holding myself accountable as a yoga teacher. I have to walk the walk and not just talk it.
Well there you go, the post might have ran on longer than expected but those are just tips and trick I have for you to make the most out of this book club. Since our club is about personal transformation, I believe mastering our mornings is essential to walk on that path.
Thank you all!
